Dear [Redacted]

I hope this message finds you well. At Omuto Foundation, we strongly believe in the power of youth to transform communities. As a youth-led organization, we have seen firsthand how education, sports, and leadership training can ignite a spark of change, especially in underserved areas. With this in mind, I’m reaching out to present a proposal for a program that we feel could profoundly impact young people in Gulu District, Northern Uganda.

Gulu, still healing from the scars of conflict, is home to many vibrant, talented young people who face limited opportunities for recreation and development. The "Youth Empowerment through Sports" program is our way of bridging this gap. With your support, we aim to engage 300 young people in football, basketball, and athletics over the course of a year, nurturing not just their physical health but also vital skills like leadership and teamwork.

1. Why This Matters

Northern Uganda carries a legacy of resilience following the LRA insurgency, but many young people are still navigating its aftermath. For many, sports can be more than just a game, it’s a lifeline. It brings a sense of belonging, builds discipline, and fosters connections that last a lifetime.

Yet, Gulu lacks organized sports programs, with over 70% of youth unable to access such activities. Without structured extracurricular opportunities, many are left idle, vulnerable to social isolation, or at risk of unhealthy behaviors.

We see an opportunity to change this narrative by using sports as a tool for growth, empowerment, and community cohesion.

2. What We’re Planning

The "Youth Empowerment through Sports" program will run for 12 months and focus on three main sports: football, basketball, and athletics. Through this initiative, we aim to:

  1. Engage 300 youth in regular sports activities to improve physical health and foster social skills.
  2. Equip them with leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the field.
  3. Inspire stronger community engagement and reduce social isolation among young people.

How We’ll Do It
